About Changemaker Benedict

Benedict did a public awareness campaign as an action developer about preventing child marriages and teenage pregnancies in his community using megaphones. He conducted a project meeting with 20 stakeholders to update and orient them on the project activities. During his campaign he focused on the most important nodes, marketplaces and business centres (CBP). He carried out outreach programmes to a primary school. He engaged pastors to pass on the messages to their congregation and imams to pass on the messages to their Jamaat in their mosques. During his campaign he focused on children, adolescents and adults. Benedict has now become a Fund Catcher. Read more about his project “Awareness raising Campaign on the prevention of Child marriage and Teenage pregnancy” below. My project focuses on child marriage and teenage pregnancy prevention in 14 chiefdoms in the Moyamba district, Sierra Leone. Child marriage and teenage is still widespread in my community despite efforts by governments and other international organizations to ends the practices. Child marriage and teenage pregnancy does not only destroy education, it has negative health impact on the girl child such as obstetric fistula, cervical cancer, HIV/AIDS, infant and maternal mortality. Child marriage and teenage pregnancy lowers our potentials as global community to develop. It imposes early financial burden on the girl child which spills over to the parents. Negative traditional practices such as female genital cutting, religions, fear of not to remain marriage are mostly responsible for menace. There are also other social problems like poverty, illiteracy and the lack of the awareness on the impact of child marriage and teenage on the girl’s child, our communities and the global community. This project is therefore designed to end child marriage and teenage pregnancy in the Moyamba district within 3 years. My ultimate goal is to end child marriage and teenage pregnancy in the fourteen (14) chiefdoms in the Moyamba district within three (3) years. Words for other potential changemakers We can start small to liberate our communities from child abuse and later grow big in our works.
